Thank you to my sister and artist Lizzy Smeltzer, who convinced me to add watercolor media to my creative stream. I have to admit I was pretty nervous about the lack of control I felt when I first took brush in hand. Paint mixed with water is a creative force all on it’s own. But oh how satisfying, those color bleeds, those mixture of brush strokes, those almost limitless possibilities in value………just add water.
She was strolling through a second hand store looking at all the little discarded knick knacks and trinkets. So many interesting little bottles, tiny toy blocks, snippets of lace and antique postcards. She moved around to the next isle and began sorting through old picture frames and boxes filled with more miscellaneous items. Her hand touched upon an old cigar box. “This is really neat she called to her sister on the next isle.” “What?” came back the reply. “This old cigar box. Seems like you could do something really interesting with it.” She opened it up and found several tiny spools of thread, a miniature pair of scissors and a thimble. Her sister came around the corner and they stared down into the box together. After a few moments they raised their heads and their eyes met. If anyone was standing close by they could have seen the wheels in their eyes spinning. That was the day VictoriaBoxworthy was created.
